The Importance of Family Portraits

Family portraits can mean so much more than you may realize. Here are 5 reasons why family portraits are important.

Create memories

Kids grow so fast. Looking at my kids right now running around the yard playing soccer and remembering when they took their first steps. They are only babies once, that classic “All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth” smile, the awkward stages and when they discover their style. These are just a few moments that I wish I could freeze time. That is why I LOVE photography – to capture a moment in time to cherish for generations.

Teach Family Values

Kindness, respect, compassion, love, acceptance are just a few examples of family values. When the family gets together in front of a camera, everyone works together to have confident poses and happy smiles. When the photo is printed and displayed, the parent beam with pride at their children. The children see the family unit as a whole and get a sense of belonging.

Confidence Boost

Not only will kids get a sense of belonging, but also a confidence boost! Having a beautiful piece of family art hanging on the wall that just shines with love and beauty can be a daily reminder of safety and acceptance. It’s so amazing how a photographer can show a new perspective that a mirror can’t. Seeing themselves in this new way can really boost their self-esteem.

Personalized Art

Why have generic art that can be found in anyone’s home when you can have something personalized? Put a personal touch when you decorate your home with the ones you love. The warmth a wonderful family photo can add to a warm is amazing. You can feel the love radiating off the image.

Preserve Family History

Not only do family photos present a current timeline but also a look into the past. Taking a trip through time while flipping through albums was one of my favorite things growing up. Seeing how fashion and style changed through generations and how they came back around! Being able to see those strong family traits persisted through time – the crazy curly hair or bright green eyes. Family history further instills those family values of belonging.
